Major Taylor Iron Riders and NY Junior Cycling Announce Collaboration and Consolidation of Their Cycling Programs
Major Taylor Iron Riders (MTIR) and NY Junior Cycling/Brands Cuevas Racing (NYJC) are extremely proud to announce their collaborative partnership effective immediately. Additionally, over the next year both organizations will be consolidating their operations.
The Major Taylor Iron Riders are a high performance cycling club with a Touring and Race level team. NYJC provides Olympic and World class coaching and support to Juniors at all levels at the Kissena Park Velodrome and on the road.
“The aligned principles and goals of the two organizations will create synergies to better serve NY based junior and adult cyclists” explains Dereka Hendon-Barnes, President of Major Taylor Iron Riders. “MTIR’s strong community base and history of high performance creates a great opportunity to foster the Juniors while also improving our participation options.”
Jonathon Figliuolo, Co-Director of New York Junior Cycling further commented “The combination of our organizations WITH their diverse pool of cycling and organizational talent, will immediately be leveraged to establish programs on the track and road for NY adults as well as teenaged juniors.”

Major Taylor Iron Riders is a New York City based nonprofit 501c3 cycling club. The club consists of cyclists of all levels from all over the tri-state area. We are a high performance cycling club. If you are willing to become a good rider, then we have a place for you. Our mission is to promote the joys, the health benefits and the camaraderie of cycling. Membership is open to anyone regardless of race, creed or gender and owns or rides a road bike. Many of our members are fascinating people and lifelong cyclists. Several have ridden for over twenty years. The club is made up of two branches, the touring members and the Major Taylor Development team.

NYJC is a nonprofit 501c3 organization building the foundation for the next generation of teenage cyclists and outstanding community citizens. Participants are diverse - including the teenagers who are overlooked and left out of the cycling community. We identify, enable and develop any junior athlete who wants a chance to participate and succeed - local level enthusiasts through the national level elite.
NYJC partners with NY’s premier talent to offer the most opportunity to our juniors. CIS Training Systems owned by David Lipscomb provides nationally recognized trains all of our members. Jairo Diaz, 2 time Olympian and coach of the Venezuelan National Cycling team is the skills and race coach.
